So, whether you’re sipping it poolside on a sunny day or enjoying it with friends at a lively gathering, a margarita is sure to bring a burst of fun and flavor to any occasion.
Who Created the drink “Margarita”
One of the earliest stories is of the margarita being invented in 1938 by Carlos “Danny” Herrera at his restaurant Rancho La Gloria, halfway between Tijuana and Rosarito, Baja California, created for the customer and former Ziegfeld dancer Marjorie King, who was allergic to many spirits, but not to tequila.
A frozen margarita is icy soothing comfort in a glass on a hot summer day. In its classic form—tequila, lime juice, and Cointreau or Triple Sec, served in a glass with a salted rim—it is a perfect combination of sweet, salty, sour, and bitter.
Which Tequila to use for the perfect classic margarita?
- Tequila: A silver or Blanco tequila is best for margaritas. This tequila is young, only aged in oak for up to two months. When it comes to margaritas, the quality of the tequila provides the perfect margarita.
- Triple Sec or Cointreau: Cointreau is a type of Triple Sec (a family of dry orange liqueurs). Triple Sec is both the name of a category and also refers to an inexpensive, lower-quality orange liqueur. Cointreau has a stronger, smoother, and more complex flavor vs Triple Sec. It’s slightly more expensive and higher in alcohol level.
- Lime juice: Fresh squeezed is better, but bottled lime juice will work too.
- Salt: Coarse kosher salt, margarita salt, or coarse sea salt.
